HOUSTON (CBS Houston) As a strong storm makes its way across the central U.S. Thursday, severe storms could develop across the Houston area.

The storm system is foretasted to produce heavy snowfall in the north as well as the Midwest; the same system could produce heavy storms and rain in the southern portions of the country, including Texas.

With the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the Houston area Thursday morning, weather meteorologists warn that the potential for high and damaging winds is prevalent.

Weather experts also stated that the storms could linger well into the early afternoon hours of Thursday.

A cold front is expected to clear out the rain by Thursday evening with mostly cloudy, windy and cool conditions expected into the remainder of the week.
