HOUSTON (CBS Houston) — A teenager is suing her parents because she claims they are trying to coerce her into getting an abortion.

According to Courthouse News Service, the 16-year-old girl known as R.E.K. in the complaint says she is being forced into aborting the fetus despite wanting to keep the baby.

“R.E.K., plaintiff, is a 16-year-old girl, who is nine (9) weeks pregnant,” the complaint states, Courthouse News Service reports. “She does not want an abortion but her mother and father are attempting to coerce her to have an abortion.”

KPRC-TV reports that a Harris County judge has granted a temporary restraining order to keep the fetus from being aborted.

“We were asking judge to stop them physically forcing her to have an abortion,” Stephen Casey, an attorney with the Texas Center for Defense of Life, told KPRC. “She is legally protected. They cannot drag her to get an abortion, force an abortion on our client.”

The complaint states that the girl lives with the baby’s father and when they told her parents, Jeffrey and Denise Koen, they threatened her and tried to coerce her into having an abortion.

“Denise informed them that R.E.K. having the baby was the biggest mistake of her life, that Denise had already had four abortions, and it was the right thing to do in this situation,” the complaint states, according to Courthouse News Service.

The lawsuit accuses Denise Koen of suggesting to slip her daughter an abortion pill.

R.E.K. claims that her father says the decision to have an abortion rests with him.

“On 2/1/2013, defendant Jeffrey Koen came to the house of the paternal grandparents and demanded that plaintiff ‘stop playing house’ and have the abortion,” the lawsuit says. “He was screaming and yelling at her, making verbal threats to enter the paternal grandparents’ house and ‘drag her little ass out of there’ if he had to. He said he would put a stop to this today.”

Jeffrey Koen is also accused of telling his daughter that she “needs an a** whoopin’.”

Casey says that getting an abortion is only convenient for the girl’s parents.

“[T]hat doesn’t change the fact that she wants to carry the child to term, she has a right to do that, and that her baby in her womb is a human life,” Casey told Courthouse News Service. “And she has recognized that and she wants to protect her baby, and she’s being pressured, coerced and forced to do the exact opposite.”

The next hearing will take place Friday.
