HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The Heart Of Gold Celebration 2013 honored both a father and a son with a strong commitment to service within the Houston community.

On Tuesday, Welcome Wilson, Sr. and Welcome Wilson, Jr. were presented with the Alice Graham Baker Crusader Award and were recognized for their lasting and impactful devotion to improving the conditions of others in Houston as well as surrounding areas.

Welcome Wilson Sr., chairman of the Board of GSL Welcome Group, began his real estate career in 1956 with the development of Jamaica Beach in Galveston. As a 1949 graduate of the University of Houston, Wilson has worked tirelessly as a pillar within the Houston community to implement change that stands to benefit generations to come.

Welcome Wilson Jr., president and CEO of GSL Welcome Group, has been in the real estate business for over three decades.

Both Wilson men are well known for their tremendous philanthropic efforts that continue to benefit students of various Houston university systems as well as  individuals in surrounding communities.

Houston’s Mayor Annise Parker was on hand to present the men the 2013 Alice Graham Baker Crusader Award for their devotion and capacity to continuously give in ways that benefit Houston residents.

The Heart Of Gold Celebration 2013 was sponsored by Neighborhood Centers Inc., an organization deeply and richly planted in Houston that provides resources and community outreach programs benefiting “… 340,000 people throughout Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast area each year,” according to the Neighborhood Centers Inc. website.
