HOUSTON (CBS Houston) An elderly man is dead after a house fire at a home.

According to reports, Houston police and firefighters responded to a call from the Park Houston apartment complex just before midnight Thursday, located in the 12000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

A fire broke out in a second floor unit. After the fire was extinguished, an 80-year-old man was found dead in a unit. Upon an initial investigation, officials believe that the man may have fallen asleep with a cigarette in his hand.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
