HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A suspected arsonist was arrested early Friday following a fire at a feed store that killed several animals. According to reports, 44-year-old Ernesto Turrubiartes is accused of purposely setting fire to a feed store that was located next his former place of employment.

The fire broke out around 9 p.m. Thursday at the feed store located on Beaumont Highway near CE King Parkway in east Harris County. Crosby and Sheldon firefighters responded to the blaze, finding heavy smoke and monstrous flames upon arrival.

After extinguishing the fire, a large portion of the store had been damaged. One dog and several birds perished in the blaze.

Additional reports indicate that witnesses saw someone running from the feed store with a red gas can.

After an investigation, Turrubiartes was arrested in connection with the blaze. Authorities also learned that he was recently fired from his job which was located next to the feed store. Turrubiartes is now charged with arson and is in jail on a $20,000 bond.
