Did you know that when “going green” with small steps, you are saving the environment in big ways? One such small step to make is to use reusable bags after going grocery shopping.

The benefits for using a reusable bag seem to be a numerous as the times you can use it. Check out the reasons you should ditch the plastic and paper and invest in a reusable bag for your belongings!

Production For Plastic Did you know that the production of plastic bags requires petroleum and often natural gas? From our science classes we know that both are non-renewable resources. They are also expensive and over time can really cost money.

Think Of That Landfill Think of this: Once your plastic bag is in a landfill, that plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to degrade. Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photo-degrade which means that they break down into toxic pieces. So, your plastic bag will still be around, breaking down while you are long gone… it’s just a thought… With a reusable bag, you are keeping waste our of our precious environment.

Wildlife OK, so think of this… you make a purchase at your grocery store, and the clerk places your items in a plastic bag. You leave the grocery store and then decide that you no longer need your plastic bag. So you decide to liter and throw the bag on the ground. A bird walks near your car and the wind blows. That bag just blew over near the bird and now the bag blew on top of the bird. The bird is suffocated by the bag and cannot breathe… shall I go on? OK. A reusable bag is made of durable material.

Marine Life Did you know that over 100,000 marine animals are killed each year from plastic bags? Think of the water birds, the turtles and other creatures that depend on the waters to survive. Those plastic bags can blow near or on top of them and do the same thing they did to the bird in the point above… According to reports, in some areas of the ocean, there are approximately six pounds of plastic for every pound of plankton.

Suited For An Eyesore How many times do you drive or walk down a street and see a plastic bag on the street, or on a sidewalk? It used to belong to someone but now it’s just an eyesore. Reusable are … (I am just gonna say it..) quite fashionable and can come in an array of colors and patterns!
