HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A teen was killed after allegedly participating in a street race. According to reports, the accident happened on Briar Forest near Eldridge Parkway around 10 p.m. Friday evening.

Two teens were allegedly participating in a street race. One teen was inside of a silver Mercedes-Benz while the other used a black Chevrolet Camaro in the race.

During the race, the teen driving the Camaro lost control and careened off the roadway due to the high rate of speed he was driving. He then jumped the curb, split a small tree in half and then wrapped the car around a larger tree. Officials stated that the 17-year-old died on impact. Additional reports indicate that the streets were wet at the time of the accident.

The teen who was driving the Mercedes, stopped after the accident and was later charged with second-degree felony racing. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
