HOUSTON (CBS Houston) An off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man who allegedly attacked another person with a knife outside a restaurant north of Houston early Friday.
The stabbing as well as subsequent shooting took place outside of the Michoacan restaurant, located on the North Freeway near E. Airtex Drive just before 12:30 a.m.
Sheriff’s deputies stated that two men had gotten into an argument which eventually spilled into the parking lot of the restaurant. It was then that one of the men pulled a gun and fired several shots at the other man. That man responded to the gun attack by getting a knife from his car, wielding the knife and stabbing the gunman several times.
An off-duty deputy who was working security at a business located next to the restaurant, heard the gunfire and proceeded to walk outside. As he ordered the suspect to drop the knife, he drew his gun. After the man failed to follow the order of the deputy, the officer then fired one shot into the man; the gunshot wound killed him.
The stabbing victim was transported to the hospital; his condition was not released at the time of this report. The identity of the off-duty deputy was not released at the time of this report. Officials are instigating the case.
“As is protocol, the Harris County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, Office of the Inspector General and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will investigate this incident,” stated officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
