Perhaps one of the most incredible stories in sports, a Heisman trophy runner-up is duped into believing his girlfriend has died withing hours of his grandmother’s passing. To add depth to the story, the girlfriend is dying from leukemia and bulimia nervosa. To add context to the story, the girlfriend never existed.

Yep, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o appears to be an extremely embarrassed victim of an internet hoax referred to as “catfishing.” So embarrassed was Te’o that he played along with the story after becoming aware of the fraud, or so he says.

The story is so compelling, it’s no surprise that Hollywood is looking to capitalize.

Listen to the “soon to be released” movie trailer.
