DALLAS (AP) — The walls have started coming down at a Dallas apartment building where Lee Harvey Oswald lived a few months before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
A bulldozer on Monday began knocking down the building erected in 1925. A few onlookers were on hand as the 10-unit structure was razed.
JFK’s assassin lived in the building from November 1962 to March 1963. The president was slain Nov. 22, 1963.
Dallas in May won a court order requiring owner Jane Bryant to tear down the uninhabited two-story apartment complex. City officials say Bryant failed to act in the allotted time and the building was classified as a nuisance.
Asbestos abatement and demolition are costing about $52,000. The city could place a lien on the property to recover that money.
