HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Former President George H.W. Bush may be discharged from a Houston hospital soon.

According to reports, the former President of the United States may be discharged from the hospital this week.

Over the weekend, a spokesperson for President Bush said that officials are hopeful that the former president will be discharged this coming week, but they continue to remain vigilant.

President Bush entered Methodist Hospital in Houston in November for treatment of what was described as a “stubborn” cough. He was also being treated for ailments related to bronchitis. The 88-year-old former President of the United States also spent time in the ICU unit of the hospital.

President Bush served as the 41st President of the United States between 1989 and 1993. As a member of the Republican party, he had previously served as the 43rd Vice President of the United States. President Bush is currently the oldest surviving President.
