HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A three-alarm fire damaged a north Harris County warehouse, igniting explosions inside the building in the early morning hours of Friday.
The fire began around 2 a.m. at the building on Yarberry Street and Hodgkins Street. According to fire investigators, the metal building was home to several auto repair shops and dozens of cars. As a result of the fire, several cars were heavily damaged or destroyed.
At least 70 to 80 firefighters helped to put out the flames. With a number of challenges fighting the fire, firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the blaze despite gas tank explosions and hazardous materials, like oil and gas products. Eventually, a HazMat team was called out to provide assistance.
Several small explosions including gas explosions and tire explosions were also reported.
Several hours after the blaze, firefighters continued to monitor the facility, quickly extinguishing hot spots.
There were no injuries reported; the cause of the fire is under investigation.
