HOUSTON (CBS Houston) On Sunday, a man died in a deputy-involved shooting. One deputy was also injured.
The incident happened in northwest Harris County on Shiloh Mist Court near Fountain Arbor around 12 p.m.
Reports indicate that a woman called 911 and reported that her husband was acting irrationally.
Upon arrival, officials found Kemal Yazar attacking medics. That’s when officials called for assistance.
Yazar continued with his irrational behavior and Yazar lunged at the deputies.
Authorities then deployed their tasers. The measure did not seem to work on Yazar so deputies were forced to pull out their guns and open fire.
Yazar was fatally shot by deputies and one deputy was injured with cuts, bite marks and bruises.
The injured deputy was taken to an area hospital and later released.
Yazar reportedly died from the gunshot wounds later at a hospital.
Due to the nature of the shooting, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies involved in the incident were on placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard protocol.
