HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The Bellaire community as well as the greater Houston area are remembering a fallen police officer killed in the line of fire as well as an innocent bystander.
Sgt. Jimmie Norman and the bystander were fatally shot on Christmas Eve after Sgt. Norman attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop. The bystander was later identified as Terry Taylor, a car shop owner.
Sgt. Norman was fatally shot Monday trying to arrest a chase suspect. Terry Taylor, 66, the owner of the auto shop where the chase ended, went outside to help the officer and was also fatally shot by 21-year-old suspect, Harlem Lewis.
Both men had visitations and funerals are scheduled for Taylor and Sgt. Norman over the weekend.
Taylor will receive full police honors at his funeral Saturday including an escort by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, on behalf of the Bellaire Police Department while Sgt.Norman’s funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Houston’s First Baptist Church. Both men are being remembered for their bravery,tenacity and courage.
Lewis faces murder charges in connection with Sgt. Norman’s and Taylor’s murders.
