HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A homeowner fatally shot a burglary suspect Thursday morning after deputies said that the homeowner was defending his property.

The shooting took place in northwest Harris County on Place Rebecca Lane just off Kuykendahl Road, according to officials.

It was around 2 a.m. when the 51-year-old homeowner heard the sound of breaking glass breaking in his condo. He went to investigate and found a man entering through a window.

After warning the suspect to leave, the homeowner then opened fire on the suspect, hitting the suspect in the head.

The suspect was then transported to an area hospital and died hours later.

Further reports indicate that the homeowner was defending his property and even has a Concealed Handgun License; however, as protocol, the case would be sent to a grand jury.

The suspect’s no homeowner’s name were not released at the time of this report.
