HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A fire in northwest Houston sent a resident and a firefighter to the hospital early Thursday morning.

The blaze broke out around 4:30 a.m. at the Cancun Apartments on Wirt Road.

According to officials with the Houston Fire Department, one resident and a firefighter sustained non-life threatening injuries as both were transported to area hospitals. Officials with HFD also stated that one firefighter hurt his back after falling through the floor of a second-story unit. There were no other reports of injuries.

Additional reports indicate that seven apartment units were damaged as a result of the fire. Four of those units were completely destroyed.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before 6 a.m. Officials are working to determine the cause of the fire.
