HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A man who was targeted for his popular and highly sought-after Jordan brand sneakers was shot. He then crashed his car into a fence on Friday.

Authorities state that the incident happened just before 11 a.m.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, two males one a driver and the other male a  passenger, went to Willowbrook Mall Friday morning to buy several pair of the new Air Jordan sneakers. They then drove home.

“As the driver pulls up to the front of his home, a vehicle pulls up in front of his car. An armed suspect gets out of the car and demands the shoes that were just purchased,” adds the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The HCSO further stated that the driver then took off running on foot, with the suspect shooting after him, leaving the passenger in the car.

“As the driver is knocking on a neighbor’s door looking for help, he hears another set of shots. According to investigators, those shots were fired at the passenger in the car by the second suspect,” stated the HCSO.

The passenger, who was trying to get behind the wheel of the car to escape, drove away wounded. He then crashed the car between two houses and hit a gas line. He was taken to Houston Northwest Hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver was not hurt.

Several residents were evacuated due to the ruptured gas line. Crews from Centerpoint Energy were called to shut off the gas. The victim was rushed to the hospital with an unknown condition.

The suspects got away, leaving the sneakers’ bag sitting on the sidewalk.

The only description investigators have at this time of the suspects is two black males driving a four-door green car. Anyone with information as to their whereabouts is being urged to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Tipsters could receive a cash reward for the capture and arrest of the sought-after suspects.
