HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Investigators are piecing together information after a driver died in a METRO bus accident. The inbound Gulf Freeway feeder road was closed for several hours Tuesday night while authorities worked to determine what caused the fatal bus accident.

Reports indicate that the driver was the only person on board the bus and that he died in the accident. The bus which was out of service at the time of the crash, was headed back to the bus barn when the accident happened. The METRO bus crashed into the cement pole that held up the freeway sign for Park Place and Broadway Boulevards.

Individuals at at nearby restaurant who heard the crash ran to assist the bus driver but found that it was too late.

It appeared to investigators that there were no other vehicles involved. There were also no other injuries reported. The name of the METRO bus driver was not released at the time of this report.
