HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A 16-year-old who was shot was in critical condition Monday morning at Texas Childrens Hospital after a fight at a southwest Houston apartment complex. Authorities say that the wounds he has are severe.
Reports indicate that the shooting happened Sunday evening at the Little Nell Apartment Homes on West Sam Houston Parkway South near Beechnut just before 9 p.m.
After hearing gunshots, residents in the apartment community called 911. Upon arrival on the scene, police found several shell casings along with a pair of shoes. Friends of the teenager drove him to the hospital. It is believed that the shoes found by police belonged to the teen as he was reportedly taken to the hospital in his bare feet.
Investigators do not believe that the teen lived at the complex. As they work to piece information together in the crime, authorities are searching for a white vehicle that was seen leaving the apartment complex after the shooting.
It is unclear the number of suspects involved in the incident. Police added that the 16-year-old and another group of people had an altercation. It was then that shots were fired. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call their local authorities.
