HOUSTON (CBS Houston) An assisted living facility caught fire Thursday, sending several individuals to the hospital and forcing the evacuation of residents from their homes.

The Houston Fire Department was called to the five-story living center located on Lyerly Street near Fulton Street just after 12 p.m.

A small fire with smoke was reported on the second floor and fire alarms were quickly pulled. Reports indicate that several individuals were first treated at the scene and then sent to the hospital.  One woman who suffered  from smoke inhalation, was rescued by a ladder truck.

Dozens of residents gathered outside in various parts of the parking lot awaiting officials to call them back in. Some of the residents were examined by EMS authorities.

All of the residents of the nearly 100-person facility were safely rescued.

The blaze was extinguished at about 12:50 p.m.
