HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A four-year-old boy is in a Houston-area hospital after being shot in the head after the gun he was playing with discharged.

Houston police were called out to an apartment home located on Laura Koppe in northeast Houston just after 11:30 p.m. Authorities found the young boy with a gunshot wound to his head.

The parents of the young child were outside the room in different areas of the apartment home and heard what they believed to be a gunshot and entered the room. They then found the boy  injured from the gunshot wound.

The four-year-old was at a hospital undergoing surgery Wednesday morning. Police say the gun’s owner is the child’s father. At the time of this report, it was not clear if charges would be filed in this case.
