HOUSTON (AP) — A 4-year-old Houston boy is hospitalized in critical condition after police say he accidentally shot himself in the face with a handgun at his family’s apartment.
The shooting happened just before midnight Tuesday in northern Houston. Police Officer Brian Evans says the boy’s parents thought he was asleep when they heard a gunshot. They went into a bedroom and found their wounded son lying on a bed.
Evans says the boy’s father had left the gun accidentally on a nightstand. No charges have been filed, but the case will be presented to the Harris County district attorney’s office for review.
