HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Despite improving health, doctors for former President George H.W. Bush say that he cannot return home just yet.

According to a spokesman at Methodist Hospital in Houston, the former President of the United States remains in stable condition but is making steady progress in terms of his health. President Bush has been hospitalized since November 23 for bronchitis-related ailments. Doctors grew more concerned about President Bush after he kept a cough that continued to linger for several days.

President Bush’s visitors to the Houston hospital have included his son, former President of the United States George W. Bush, and his wife Laura, who reside in Dallas.

George Herbert Walker Bush served as the 41st President of the United States and is currently the oldest surviving president. He and his wife Barbara split their time between their two residences; one residence is located in Houston while the other is located in Kennebunkport, Maine.
