HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A three-year-old Montgomery County boy died in a mobile home fire over the weekend. The fire happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday, at a residence located on Todd Road near F.M. 1488, west of Magnolia.
Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office stated that three-year-old Dakota Myers and his 10-year-old cousin were asleep. Dakota’s mother was next door when the home burst into flames. Dakota’s mother and her neighbors reportedly smelled the smoke and saw the flames. Despite their best efforts to save the children from the fire, the blaze proved to be too intense.
Neighbors even tried to save the boys and some received burns in the process. The 10-year-old child managed to get out of the home, but three-year-old Dakota did not.
The blaze was eventually brought under control by firefighters. They then gained entry and found the body of Dakota in a back room. The 10-year-old and another adult at the scene were treated for smoke inhalation.
As investigators work to determine what started the fire, they learned that the home was not equipped with any working smoke detectors.
