HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A driver fleeing from police crashed his car into a METRO bus stop in northeast Houston at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
According to reports, police attempted to stop the driver due to a traffic violation on Laura Koppe near Spaulding. However, the driver refused to stop and kept driving through streets.
Despite staying within the speed limit, the motorist still lost control at Weaver and Lockwood and then hit a METRO bus stop. He then jumped out of his car and ran several hundred yards before being captured and taken into custody by authorities. Additional reports indicate that police found crack cocaine on him.
The driver was then charged with evading and possession of drugs. His identity was not released at the time of this report.
Due to the impact from the accident, the METRO bus stop had to be demolished and removed.
