HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A high school student shot himself after being taken into custody for having a gun at North Shore High School Wednesday morning; authorities were called to the school just before 11 a.m.
The male student was arrested by a Harris County Precinct 3 deputy at the school. The student was handcuffed and searched before being placed in the back of a squad car. The student then shot himself in the back of the head, apparently with another gun. There were no additional injuries reported.
Additional reports indicate that the student was conscious after the shooting and was being treated for his gunshot wound at Ben Taub Hospital.
Investigators stated that the police car was in motion in the school’s back parking lot when the student shot himself with a deputy driving the vehicle.
As a result of the incident, classes for Wednesday as well as after-school activities were canceled.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Harris County Precinct 3 continue to investigate the incident.
