HOUSTON (CBS Houston)  One person is dead and another person was wounded after an early morning shooting at a home in north Houston early Wednesday morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. on Neyland Street.

A mother was pronounced dead at the scene while a man was sent to the hospital to be treated for his wounds. A third person, who was hit over the head with an object, was checked out at the scene.

When HPD first got to the scene the mother’s 21-year-old son answered the door, armed with a knife. No identities were released at the time of this report. HPD continues to investigate the events that led up to the shooting.
