Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip, authorities arrested a man who allegedly murdered a young mother last week. Last Thursday 23-year-old Vanessa Rodriguez was shot in her apartment on Pitner in the Spring Branch area. Although Rodriguez was home with her 18-month-old daughter, the baby wasn’t harmed.

After shooting Rodriguez, the gunman then took her cell phone and left. Robbery is believed to be the motive in the shooting.

Houston Police Department homicide detectives traveled to Donna, Texas located in the valley to locate the alleged gunman they believe is responsible for the murder.

Twenty-year-old Neil Mukherjee, who has a criminal history was apprehended by HPD and is now charged with capital murder.

Rodriguez’ husband was at work at the time of the time of the murder. Although Josefino Ortega expressed happiness over the arrest of Mukherjee, he said that nothing will bring his wife back. He also expressed gratitude for the tip that led investigators to the alleged gunman.

Mukherjee who was taken to a jail in the Valley, will likely go before a judge on Friday. He is then expected to be extradited to Houston.
