Preston Hughes, a condemned Texas prisoner is scheduled to be executed Thursday, for the fatal stabbings of a teen girl and her three-year-old cousin in Houston; the stabbings happened 24 years ago.
Hughes, 46, insists he’s innocent of the stabbings of 15-year-old Shandra Charles and her cousin, Marcell Taylor.
The stabbings of Charles and Taylor took place in a wooded field. Hughes, who had already been on probation for sexual assault of a child, told police that “Preston” had tried to rape Charles.
Hughes and his defense team had numerous appeals in the courts to block the execution scheduled for Thursday evening in Huntsville. On Wednesday, a San Antonio man was executed for the 2001 rape and murder of a woman.
