To bring awareness to the upcoming 25th annual TXU Energy Turkey Trot benefitting Sheltering Arms Senior Services and get more people interested participating, TXU Energy held a turkey calling contest at the Houston Zoo and included a media category of competitors.
As if gobbling like a turkey isn’t embarrassing enough, all the competitors representing Houston’s local media outlets wore silly turkey hats and showed off some stellar turkey moves for the audience.
I’ve never been one to shy away from the chance to be goofy onstage, but I was a tad bit nervous about my clucking and gobbling skills being insufficient.
After showing off my gobbling skills – special thanks to KILT’s Cowboy Dave for the tips – I was named as one of the four finalists for a gobble-off. And I won! It’s not exactly the honor that most people in this business seek, but I’m proud to have won an event I knew nothing about 10 minutes before competing.
Check out my clutch performance!
I can’t believe the prize. As the winner of the TXU Energy Turkey Calling Contest, I’ve been awarded 20 trees to be planted in a public location of my choice. To me, that is such a beautiful gift, and I’m very excited for the tree-planting ceremony this spring.
The location for the trees has yet to be determined, so I”m open to suggestions.
Thanks for reading! And I hope you all have a very silly Thanksgiving!
