RICHMOND, Texas (AP) — One Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office investigator was killed and another injured in an off-duty motorcycle accident.

The sheriff’s office says 45-year-old Shelley Nicodemus, the passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene after the early Sunday morning accident. Investigator Moses Perez, the driver, suffered head and back injuries.

Sheriff’s officials say the two were on an Interstate 10 feeder road in the Houston suburb of Katy when the accident happened. Katy police investigated the accident.

Sheriff’s officials say the initial report shows that the motorcycle hit a curb and then skidded.

Perez was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. He’s in stable condition.

Nicodemus has been with the sheriff’s office for about 20 years.

Fort Bend County is located in the Houston metropolitan area.
