LA PORTE, Texas (CBS Houston) – A local mother was reportedly arrested and placed in jail after allowing her children to play outside on what has been described as a quiet residential street.
The woman, Tammy Cooper, is now disputing child endangerment charges filed against her after a neighbor accused her of letting the children play unsupervised on scooters, KPRC-TV reports.
Cooper contends that she was watching her 6- and 9-year-old children from a lawn chair, and is now suing multiple parties after her “humiliating” experience, the station additionally learned.
“[I was in an o]range jump suit, in a cell, slammed the door, for 18 hours,” she was quoted as saying.
The La Porte Police Department, the responding officer, and the neighbor who initially made the complaint are all allegedly being sued by Cooper.
Representatives of the police department expressed confidence in the actions of responding officers when KPRC spoke with them.
The neighbor reportedly declined to comment, however.
