Alex Smith be nimble, Crabtree be quick
The new No. 1 team plays at Candlestick.
The San Francisco 49ers have made it to the top of our rankings.
All the Ghiardelli chocolate and the promise of a comp round at Pebble Beach have paid off. I give in: The 49ers right now are the best team in the NFL.
Even though I still have reservations about the style of football they play, as well as their passing-game limitations, they get the nod after they dominated the Detroit Lions on Sunday night at Candlestick.
I know there are some who are ready to take the “Game Manager” label off Smith, but not just yet. He is playing better, and he’s not turning it over, but I have to see it against a good defense on the road before the label comes off.
