SEABROOK, Texas (CBS Houston) — It wasn’t a day at the beach for one Austin resident.

Austin police tell KXAN-TV that 26-year-old Phillip Beach tried to steal a 44-foot tall sailboat by tethering a rope around him and swimming for deeper water.

The station reports a harbor master in a nearby Seabrook shipyard spotted Beach trying to swim away with the $120,000 boat named the Flying Pearl.

According to police, Beach initially refused to surrender, but a detective finally talked him out of the water.

Beach was jailed and charged with felony theft.
