WILLIS, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a toddler may have drowned after wandering away from his grandfather’s home and falling into a private lake in Southeast Texas.

The Montgomery County sheriff’s office says deputies called to a home in Willis on Thursday morning found paramedics trying to revive the 16-month-old boy, but the child died.

Authorities say the child was outside with his grandfather and wandered across the street from the home while the grandfather was in the garage.

Officials say charges are not expected to be filed. No identities were released.

Montgomery County sheriff’s investigators are looking into the incident, and an autopsy was ordered.

Willis is about 50 miles north of Houston.
