Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit made over a dozen arrests during an undercover prostitution sting last week in East Harris County.
The two-day operation, targeting suspects who solicit sex from prostitutes and the prostitutes themselves, was conducted in the Cloverleaf subdivision and along the I-10 East corridor.
“This is not the first reverse prostitution sting nor will it be the last,” confirmed Sheriff Adrian Garcia. “We will continue to target the supply and demand of this type of criminal activity by going after those who solicit sex and those who sell sex.”
The operation was initiated in response to several citizen complaints and it involved multiple divisions within the Sheriff’s Office.
“Although human trafficking may not have been involved in these cases, the Sheriff’s Office is attuned to the fact that ‘sex slavery’ has become a significant problem in Harris County due in part to the high mobile area’s role as an international gateway,” Sheriff Garcia added. “The Sheriff’s Office will aggressively seek to blunt the organized enslavement of immigrants as well as longtime residents by criminals seeking to exploit women of all kinds.”
The operation entailed undercover female deputies posing as prostitutes working the streets, along with male undercover deputies who were canvassing the area searching for females who were soliciting sex for money. As a result of the two day investigation, seventeen suspects were arrested. All are charged with prostitution.
