Fans attending the University of Houston Football team’s season opener on Sept. 1 will be able to celebrate much more than their Cougars.

The season opener, which kicks off at 7 p.m., Sept. 1, features Heroes Day activities. Local citizens who makesignificant differences in the lives of others will be honored in in pregame ceremonies and throughout the game.

These heroes include Houston Fire and Houston Police, first responders, military veterans and much more.

“As we celebrate the start of the college football season, we are thrilled to help bring attention to so manyHouston residents who work to make the world a better place,” Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing, Promotions and Sales Rob Stewart said. “These men and women are true heroes in every sense and, far too often, are not recognized for the great work they do. We are proud to celebrate their achievements.”

Heroes Day will be only the first of many exciting Houston Football promotions throughout the season. Fans should stay tuned to UHCougars.com and Houston Athletics’ social media platforms for the latest information.
