SHREVEPORT, La. (CBS Houston) – When Shreveport police tried to arrest a man accused of failing to pay $8,700 for vehicle repairs two years ago, he took off in his pickup truck, a spokesman says.
The 10-minute chase on Tuesday was “a little bit roundabout,” but ended at the Caddo Parish Correctional Center, said Shreveport Police Cpl. Bill Goodin.
“He bailed out. Abandoned his vehicle and ran into jail,” Goodin said. “It’s strange. I’ve never heard of one like this before.”
Bobby Parks, 40, of Shreveport, jumped out of the truck in the prison parking lot and ran through the main lobby into an area reserved for deputies, where a deputy and Shreveport police arrested him, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick.
Parks has been booked into the jail before, Chadwick said.
“He knew where he was going. I don’t know why he went there,” she said.
Goodin said the chase started when Shreveport police officers recognized Parks, who was sitting in the truck, and walked over to arrest him on Caddo Parish warrants.
He drove off. Police gave chase, though they said the chase didn’t reach high speeds.
Parks was expected to be brought to the parish jail after being booked in the Shreveport city Jail for flight and as a fugitive from two warrants accusing him on three counts of theft, Chadwick said.
Chadwick said Parks is accused of failing to pay three companies for repair work in 2010.
Like Goodin, she said she’d never heard of a chase ending at a jail.
