MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Ernesto has strengthened into a Category 1 Hurricane as it continues to head toward the Yucatan Peninsula.
At 2:00 p.m., Ernesto is located about 185 miles east of Chetumal, Mexico.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 80 mph, with higher gusts. The storm is moving to the west-northwest at 14 mph.
This general motion is expected to continue through Tuesday night, followed by a turn toward the west on Wednesday.
On this forecast track the center of Ernesto will continue passing north of the coast of Honduras Tuesday and will cross the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula Tuesday night.
