HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – A confrontation between Houston police and a man who was acting strange outside a motel ended with the man’s death after authorities reportedly shocked him with a Taser, police said.
Many questions remain unanswered as the Houston Police Department handles the fallout from the incident Tuesday night that resulted in an in-custody death after one shock from a Taser. The Houston Chronicle reports that police responded to a call about a man acting in a bizarre fashion outside of the Interstate Motor Lodge.
The 38-year-old man, whose name has been withheld, reportedly appeared at the motel with wet hair and huge eyes, begging for help, according to a motel clerk’s recollection to the Chronicle.
Upon the arrival of police and fire paramedics, the man refused their help. This led to police attempting to detain the man, which was initially met with resistance from him, according to the Chronicle. Then, police used a Taser on the man. Not too long after that, the 38-year-old man died at East Houston Medical Center.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed. An investigation into the man’s death will be underway soon, according to the Chronicle.
