HOUSTON (AP) — Verizon Wireless has notified Texas employment officials that it plans to close a call center in Houston and cut nearly 950 jobs.
Verizon filed a notice with the Texas Workforce Commission saying it had given 943 workers at the customer service call center 60 days’ notice that their jobs are being eliminated. The company intends to close the call center Aug. 25.
The New York-based company announced in March that it would close three call centers — in Houston and the Seattle and Detroit areas.
Verizon spokeswoman Sheryl Sellaway says the total number of Houston-based layoffs will likely change as some accept other jobs in the company.
