SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — The director of an Austin-area day care center has been convicted of capital murder in the death of a 10-week-old child left in her care.

A Hays County jury returned the verdict against Christina Suzanne Lyons on Monday. Since prosecutors weren’t seeking the death penalty, Lyons is automatically sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

Prosecutors say she caused intentional blunt force trauma to the head of Benjamin Spencer at her home child-care center in Kyle on Nov. 18. The child died on Nov. 25.

Lyons hinted that her 4-year-old daughter caused the child’s death while she was out of the room.
