HOUSTON (CBS Houston) — A local woman is under investigation after she left her 1-year-old child alone in the car to get a body piercing.
The woman was also drunk and pregnant at the time, police told the Houston Chronicle.
Early Tuesday morning, an unnamed woman was found sleeping in her parked car with the engine running. She was in the driver’s seat. Her daughter was elsewhere in the vehicle.
Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith told the Chronicle that the woman, who appeared to be drunk, told officers that she went to the tattoo parlor to get a piercing, but was refused service due to her apparent inebriated state.
A witness reportedly told authorities that the woman left her child alone in the car at the time.
Smith added to the paper that the woman was pregnant. Houston Fire Department medical personnel came to the scene to assess her condition, and she was reportedly taken to Ben Taub General Hospital from there.
In addition to the infant child, cops also allegedly found beer bottles and possibly Xanax in the car.
She now faces charges of driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled substance, the Chronicle reports.
State Child Protective Services allegedly came to the scene to care for the child, who was also not named.
