HOUSTON (CBS Houston) — As if the Rockets needed any more pressure for Monday night’s game against Denver, they will be without starting center Marcus Camby in virtual must-win game at Toyota Center.
Camby, who was limited to playing just 7:41 during Sunday night’s 101-86 loss to the Nuggets due to a back injury, was scratched during warmups on Monday night. That leaves Sam Dalembert to return to the starting lineup in the post.
But losing Camby is critical because his defensive presence and shot blocking ability have been key for the Rockets. Being without him comes at the worst possible time because the Rockets (32-28) are riding a three-game losing streak and fighting to hold onto one of the Western Conference playoff spots.
Rockets coach Kevin McHale did say prior to the game that leading scorer Kevin Martin will dress for Monday night’s game, but it’s unlikely he will play. Martin (17.1 points per game average) has missed the last 17 games due to a strained right shoulder injury. He last played on March 11 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
