HOUSTON (AP) — A father and his 9-year-old son are dead after their van crashed into a suburban Houston pond while they were delivering newspapers on a foggy morning.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says 39-year-old Fabio Martinez-Palacios was driving a newspaper route with his son early Sunday morning when he missed a curve on a road in Rosenberg, Texas. The van landed in a pond.

Authorities identified the boy as 9-year-old Daniel Martinez. They found the van in the water packed with newspapers. The father was in the water, while the boy was found in the grass next to the pond.

Investigators believe dense fog contributed to the crash. They say the man may also have been new to the route and unfamiliar with the windy road.
