HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – If the weather stands, the upcoming weekend will be excellent for baseball as the Houston Cougars begin conference play on the road in Hattiesburg. They will face the 12-7 Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.

Head Coach, Todd Whitting and the Cougars look to improve an overall 9-10 record against a Southern Miss team that’s coming off of a 10-0 road win versus the Ole Miss Rebels.

“Southern Miss year-in, year-out is one of the premier teams in Conference USA,” says Whitting. “They’ve got a highly ranked recruiting class that they’ve brought in this year that’s played well. They had a big win last night, (Tuesday), over in-state rival Ole Miss and they won 10-0 over there in Oxford. So, they’re going to be flying pretty high.”

Ole Miss swept the Cougars in Oxford earlier this season, 11-3, 9-0, and 8-0. So, Whitting is very familiar with the landscape.
