HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – Rice gave themselves an early cushion and never looked back in defeating number 8 Arizona, 5-1, in the first of two played on Tuesday night at Reckling Park. The win by the Owls snapped Arizona’s eight game winning streak.

During the process, legendary Hall of Fame Head Coach Wayne Graham added win number 1500 to his already glossy resume in 32 years of coaching. His Owls didn’t take long to help him earn the win as they got on the board early in the first inning.

Juniors Michael Ratterree and Jeremy Rathjen doubled to give the Owls their first 2 runs. Junior second baseman Christian Stringer, who singled to start the bottom of the first, scored on the Ratterree double while Ratterree would score on the Rathjen double.
