HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – Texans outside linebacker Mario Williams became a free agent at 3 p.m. Tuesday. His first stop will be in Buffalo to meet with the Bills.
Williams (6-6, 283), who converted into a 3-4 outside linebacker from a 4-3 defensive end last season, has led the team with 53 sacks during his six seasons as a Texan. He played in just five games last season and accrued five sacks before suffering a torn pectoral muscle.
The Bills had one of the worst defenses last season, giving up 371 yards per game and ranking 26th among the league’s 32 teams. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus led the Bills with 5.5 sacks last season.
With Williams sideline for the most of the season, Connor Barwin and rookie outside linebacker Brooks Reed combined for 17.5 sacks.
