Houston is strapping on its chaps and pulling its hats down tight for the 2012 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Since 1932, this rodeo has awarded scholarships helped Houston youth all while entertaining families from across the nation. This year’s festivities will run through March 18. And it’s all in one place: Reliant Center. Here are the best bets for family friendly activities and entertainment at Houston’s best rodeo.

On Black Heritage Day, R&B superstar John Legend returns to Rodeo Houston for the second time. His latest album “Wake Up” in 2011 in which he collaborated with The Roots features favorites that’ll have everyone singing along all night long.

Kids were first introduced to Big Time Rush on Nickelodeon’s television series of the same name. The show developed into a full-fledged music group. This will be the band’s first appearance at Rodeo Houston. China McClain is widely known as an actress from roles in Tyler Perry and Disney Channel movies and films, and she joins her sisters for their first appearance at Rodeo Houston.

Both Billboard chart toppers Duelo and La Original Banda el Limon are regular performers at Rodeo Houston. Duelo entrances its female fans with love songs while the 17-member La Original Banda el Limon is one of the oldest bands in contemporary Mexican music. Both have a knack for keeping crowds going all night long.

The Spring Break Stampede features extended carnival hours and a performance from Grammy Winner Miranda Lambert. Her latest album “Four the Road” was released just last summer, and the famed songbird’s new trio Pistol Annies promises Lambert still has a few chords up her sleeve.
