AUSTIN, Texas (CBS Houston) – A Lyndon B. Johnson High School teacher and coach has resigned amid charges that she provided the “morning after pill” to a 16-year-old student who worried she was pregnant.
Tracy Lee Steinberg, 32, was an assistant coach for the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams before resigning from her coaching responsibilities and math classes. An arrest affidavit includes that Steinberg told police she puts the needs of students before her own.
It started when the 16-year-old needed advice, panicked after revealing she had unprotected sex with her boyfriend. The affidavit said Steinberg volunteered to run out for the “Plan B” pill, telling police that the couple had a bright future.
Police say she sold two pills to the girl and gave her a Sprite to wash it down.
Later, while the student suffered side effects like nausea and dizziness, she told her mother, who called school police.
Steinberg is charged with delivery of a dangerous drug, which is a felony. The morning after pill is considered dangerous because anyone under the age of 17 requires a prescription to take it.
